AMFS presents The Talking Heads - Live in Roma 1980
Rochester, NY Sept 5, 2013 -
On Thursday September 12th, Lakeshore Record Exchange in conjunction with The Memorial Art Gallery will debut the next film in the Alternative Music Film Series: The Talking Heads Live in Roma 1980
With the recent performance in Rochester by David Byrne, the Alternative Music Film Society received many requests from fans who wanted more or were not able to attend the concert. This is a chance to see David and the band back at the beginning!
"...if you’re looking for the pinnacle of live Talking Heads footage, I’d point you in the direction of this unbelievable show from Rome, 1980. Completing the Heads’ journey from minimalist to maximalist, it features the expanded, ten-piece lineup blazing through tunes from the just-released masterwork Remain In Light, as well as dynamically re-inventing choice selections from the back catalogue. They still sound like the band of the future more than 30 years later, with careening polyrhythms, interstellar Adrian Belew guitar-work, and P-Funk grooves courtesy of Bernie Worrell. Once in a lifetime, indeed." On line review by T. Wilcox
The evening will begin at 5:45 pm with a cocktail party in the Atrium of the Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Avenue. The film will start at 7 PM.
Please note this is a time change from previous films in the series.
As the Memorial Art Gallery celebrates it's 100th year and as the Lakeshore Record Exchange celebrates it’s 25th year, they mark these milestones with the formation of the Alternative Music Film Society (AMFS). Lakeshore Record Exchange is exposed to a large number of unique films that even music fans may not know about. The AMFS was founded to share these films that are largely unknown or hard to view by other means.
This event is $10 at the door – Cash only.
Seating is limited to 290, so get there early. Come enjoy the Memorial Art Gallery and the latest in our film series.
